Notes
-----
2015-11-17 15:14:36 +01:00
* Tested on OS X 10.7 through 10.11 on 64-bit Intel processors only.

2013-06-16 12:29:23 +02:00
* All of the commands should be executed in a Terminal application. The
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
built-in one is located in `/Applications/Utilities` .
Preparation
-----------
2015-10-17 12:10:45 +02:00
You need to install Xcode with all the options checked so that the compiler
and everything is available in /usr not just /Developer. Xcode should be
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
available on your OS X installation media, but if not, you can get the
current version from https://developer.apple.com/xcode/. If you install
Xcode 4.3 or later, you'll need to install its command line tools. This can
be done in `Xcode > Preferences > Downloads > Components` and generally must
be re-done or updated every time Xcode is updated.
2014-09-18 10:11:45 +02:00
You will also need to install [Homebrew ](http://brew.sh ) in order to install library
dependencies.
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
2015-11-17 15:14:36 +01:00
The installation of the actual dependencies is covered in the instructions
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
sections below.

Instructions: Homebrew

----------------------
#### Install dependencies using Homebrew
2017-02-19 22:02:33 +01:00
brew install autoconf automake berkeley-db4 libtool boost miniupnpc openssl pkg-config protobuf libevent

NOTE: Building with Qt4 is still supported, however, could result in a broken UI. As such, building with Qt5 is recommended. Qt5 5.7 requires C++11 which Neobytes Core doesn't fully support yet, Qt5 5.6.2 has some other issues, so make sure to install Qt version < 5.6.2 ( 5 . 6 . 1-1 is recommended ) .
2017-02-19 22:02:33 +01:00
brew install https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/homebrew-core/e6d954bab88e89c5582498157077756900865070/Formula/qt5.rb

### Building Neobytes Core
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
2015-10-17 12:10:45 +02:00
1. Clone the GitHub tree to get the source code and go into the directory.
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
2024-02-05 23:00:22 +01:00
git clone https://github.com/neobytes-project/neobytes.git
cd neobytes
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
2024-12-16 19:40:22 +01:00
2. Build Neobytes Core:
2024-02-05 23:00:22 +01:00
This will configure and build the headless neobytes binaries as well as the gui (if Qt is found).
2015-11-17 15:14:36 +01:00
You can disable the gui build by passing `--without-gui` to configure.
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
2013-11-11 04:11:33 +01:00
./autogen.sh
./configure
make
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
2014-06-28 10:43:07 +02:00
3. It is also a good idea to build and run the unit tests:
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
2013-12-11 23:11:21 +01:00
make check
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
2024-02-05 23:00:22 +01:00
4. (Optional) You can also install neobytesd to your path:
2014-09-30 19:48:40 +02:00
make install
2014-11-14 15:04:46 +01:00
Use Qt Creator as IDE
------------------------
You can use Qt Creator as IDE, for debugging and for manipulating forms, etc.
2015-11-17 15:14:36 +01:00
Download Qt Creator from https://www.qt.io/download/. Download the "community edition" and only install Qt Creator (uncheck the rest during the installation process).
2014-11-14 15:04:46 +01:00
2015-10-17 12:10:45 +02:00
1. Make sure you installed everything through Homebrew mentioned above
2015-11-17 15:14:36 +01:00
2. Do a proper ./configure --enable-debug
2014-11-14 15:04:46 +01:00
3. In Qt Creator do "New Project" -> Import Project -> Import Existing Project
2024-02-05 23:00:22 +01:00
4. Enter "neobytes-qt" as project name, enter src/qt as location
2014-11-14 15:04:46 +01:00
5. Leave the file selection as it is
6. Confirm the "summary page"
7. In the "Projects" tab select "Manage Kits..."
8. Select the default "Desktop" kit and select "Clang (x86 64bit in /usr/bin)" as compiler
2015-09-12 09:35:36 +02:00
9. Select LLDB as debugger (you might need to set the path to your installation)
2014-11-14 15:04:46 +01:00
10. Start debugging with Qt Creator
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
Creating a release build
------------------------
2024-02-05 23:00:22 +01:00
You can ignore this section if you are building `neobytesd` for your own use.
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
2024-12-16 19:40:22 +01:00
neobytesd/neobytes-cli binaries are not included in the Neobytes-Qt.app bundle.
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
2024-12-16 19:40:22 +01:00
If you are building `neobytesd` or `Neobytes Core` for others, your build machine should be set up
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
as follows for maximum compatibility:
All dependencies should be compiled with these flags:
2014-11-10 13:25:51 +01:00
-mmacosx-version-min=10.7
2014-02-26 03:35:48 +01:00
-arch x86_64
2014-11-10 13:25:51 +01:00
-isysroot $(xcode-select --print-path)/Platforms/MacOSX.platform/Developer/SDKs/MacOSX10.7.sdk
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
2024-12-16 19:40:22 +01:00
Once dependencies are compiled, see [doc/release-process.md ](release-process.md ) for how the Neobytes Core
2014-02-26 03:35:48 +01:00
bundle is packaged and signed to create the .dmg disk image that is distributed.
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
Running
-------
2024-02-05 23:00:22 +01:00
It's now available at `./neobytesd` , provided that you are still in the `src`
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
directory. We have to first create the RPC configuration file, though.
2024-02-05 23:00:22 +01:00
Run `./neobytesd` to get the filename where it should be put, or just try these
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
commands:
2024-12-16 19:40:22 +01:00
echo -e "rpcuser=neobytesrpc\nrpcpassword=$(xxd -l 16 -p /dev/urandom)" > "/Users/${USER}/Library/Application Support/Neobytes/neobytes.conf"
chmod 600 "/Users/${USER}/Library/Application Support/Neobytes/neobytes.conf"
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
2014-06-28 10:43:07 +02:00
The next time you run it, it will start downloading the blockchain, but it won't
2014-02-26 03:35:48 +01:00
output anything while it's doing this. This process may take several hours;
you can monitor its process by looking at the debug.log file, like this:
2024-12-16 19:40:22 +01:00
tail -f $HOME/Library/Application\ Support/Neobytes/debug.log
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
Other commands:
2014-06-28 10:43:07 +02:00
-------
2012-12-12 17:52:38 +01:00
2024-02-05 23:00:22 +01:00
./neobytesd -daemon # to start the neobytes daemon.
./neobytes-cli --help # for a list of command-line options.
./neobytes-cli help # When the daemon is running, to get a list of RPC commands
