8109f0046d Merge bitcoin/bitcoin#13533: [tests] Reduced number of validations in tx_validationcache_tests
c3e111a7daf5800026dda4455c737de0412528f1 Reduced number of validations in `tx_validationcache_tests` to keep the run time reasonable. (lucash-dev)

Pull request description:

  Following a suggestion in the comments, changed `ValidateCheckInputsForAllFlags` from testing all possible flag combinations to testing a random subset. Also created a new enum constant for the highest flag, so that this test doesn’t keep testing an incomplete subset in case a new flag is added.

  Timing for `checkinputs_test`:
  ```
  Before:   6.8s
  After:    3.7s
  ----------------
  Saved:    3.1s (45%)
  ```

  This PR was split from #13050. Also see #10026.

c338cd69d4 (partial) Merge bitcoin/bitcoin#22232: refactor: Pass interpreter flags as uint32_t instead of signed int
fa621ededdfe31a200b77a8787de7e3d2e667aec refactor: Pass script verify flags as uint32_t (MarcoFalke)

Pull request description:

  The flags are cast to unsigned in the interpreter anyway, so avoid the confusion (and fuzz crashes) by just passing them as unsigned from the beginning.

  Also, the flags are often inverted bit-wise with the `~` operator, which also works on signed integers, but might cause confusion as the sign bit is flipped.

  Fixes #22233

3c5dcb036a Merge #16659: refactoring: Remove unused includes
084e17cebd424b8e8ced674bc810eef4e6ee5d3b Remove unused includes (practicalswift)

Pull request description:

  As requested by MarcoFalke in https://github.com/bitcoin/bitcoin/pull/16273#issuecomment-521332089:

  This PR removes unused includes.

  Please note that in contrast to #16273 I'm limiting the scope to the trivial cases of pure removals (i.e. no includes added) to make reviewing easier.

  I'm seeking "Concept ACK":s for this obviously non-urgent minor cleanup.

  Rationale:
  * Avoids unnecessary re-compiles in case of header changes.
  * Makes reasoning about code dependencies easier.
  * Reduces compile-time memory usage.
  * Reduces compilation time.
  * Warm fuzzy feeling of being lean :-)

ACKs for top commit:
  ryanofsky:
    Code review ACK 084e17cebd424b8e8ced674bc810eef4e6ee5d3b. PR only removes include lines and it still compiles. In the worst case someone might have to explicitly add an include later for something now included implicitly. But maybe some effort was taken to avoid this, and it wouldn't be a tragedy anyway.

Merge #13309: Directly operate with CMutableTransaction in SignSignature
6b8b63af1461dc11ffd813401e2c36fa44656715 Generic TransactionSignatureCreator works with both CTransaction and CMutableTransaction (Martin Ankerl)

Pull request description:

  Refactored `TransactionSignatureCreator` into a templated `GenericTransactionSignatureCreator` that works with both `CMutableTransaction` and `CTransaction`.

  The advantage is that now in `SignSignature`, the `MutableTransactionSignatureCreator` can now operate directly with the `CMutableTransaction` without the need to copy the data into a `CTransaction`.

  Running all unit tests brings a very noticable speedup on my machine:

      48.4 sec before this change
      36.4 sec with this change
      --------
      12.0 seconds saved

  running only `--run_test=transaction_tests/test_big_witness_transaction`:

      16.7 sec before this change
       5.9 sec with this change
      --------
      10.8 seconds saved

  This relates to my first attempt with the const_cast hack #13202, and to the slow unit test issue #10026.

  Also see #13050 which modifies the tests but not the production code (like this PR) to get a speedup.

Merge #12885: Reduce implementation code inside CScript

33a8ecf Delete unused non-const-iterator CSCript::GetOp overloads (Pieter Wuille)
2fb168b Make iterators in CScript::FindAndDelete const (Pieter Wuille)

Pull request description:

  This PR moves `FindAndDelete` and `GetOp2` out of CScript (the first is only used inside the interpreter and moved there, the second does not actually depend on any script specifics and works on any vector). Furthermore, all non-const-iterator versions of GetOp are replaced by const ones, removing a number of methods in the process.

  The longer term goal here is making the script interpreter independent from the CScript representation.

  Note for reviewers: both `FindAndDelete` and `GetScriptOp` are consensus critical.

Merge #10699: Make all script validation flags backward compatible
01013f5 Simplify tx validation tests (Pieter Wuille)
2dd6f80 Add a test that all flags are softforks (Pieter Wuille)
2851b77 Make all script verification flags softforks (Pieter Wuille)

Pull request description:

  This change makes `SCRIPT_VERIFY_UPGRADABLE_NOPS` not apply to `OP_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY` and `OP_CHECKSEQUENCEVERIFY`. This is a no-op as `UPGRADABLE_NOPS` is only set for mempool transactions, and those always have `SCRIPT_VERIFY_CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY` and `SCRIPT_VERIFY_CHECKSEQUENCEVERIFY` set as well. The advantage is that setting more flags now always results in a reduction in acceptable scripts (=softfork).

  This results in a nice and testable property for validation, for which a new test is added.

  This also means that the introduction of a new definition for a NOP or witness version will likely need the following procedure (example OP_NOP8 here)
  * Remove OP_NOP8 from being affected by `SCRIPT_VERIFY_DISCOURAGE_UPGRADABLE_NOPS`.
  * Add a `SCRIPT_VERIFY_DISCOURAGE_NOP8`, which only applies to `OP_NOP8`.
  * Add a `SCRIPT_VERIFY_NOP8` which implements the new consensus logic.
  * Before activation, add `SCRIPT_VERIFY_DISCOURAGE_NOP8` to the mempool flags.
  * After activation, add `SCRIPT_VERIFY_NOP8` to both the mempool and consensus flags.

c0c5e09fe2 BIP112: Implement CHECKSEQUENCEVERIFY
- Replace NOP3 with CHECKSEQUENCEVERIFY (BIP112)
  <nSequence> CHECKSEQUENCEVERIFY -> <nSequence>
- Fails if txin.nSequence < nSequence, allowing funds of a txout to be locked for a number of blocks or a duration of time after its inclusion in a block.
- Pull most of CheckLockTime() out into VerifyLockTime(), a local function that will be reused for CheckSequence()
- Add bitwise AND operator to CScriptNum
- Enable CHECKSEQUENCEVERIFY as a standard script verify flag
- Transactions that fail CSV verification will be rejected from the mempool, making it easy to test the feature. However blocks containing "invalid" CSV-using transactions will still be accepted; this is *not* the soft-fork required to actually enable CSV for production use.

bc60b2b4b4 Replace NOP2 with CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY (BIP65)
<nLockTime> CHECKLOCKTIMEVERIFY -> <nLockTime>

Fails if tx.nLockTime < nLockTime, allowing the funds in a txout to be
locked until some block height or block time in the future is reached.

Only the logic and unittests are implemented; this commit does not have
any actual soft-fork logic in it.

Thanks to Pieter Wuille for rebase.

Credit goes to Gregory Maxwell for the suggestion of comparing the
argument against the transaction nLockTime rather than the current
time/blockheight directly.

Based on an earlier patch by Peter Todd, though the rules here are different
(P2SH scripts should not have a CLEANSTACK check before the P2SH evaluation).

98b135f97f Make STRICTENC invalid pubkeys fail the script rather than the opcode.
This turns STRICTENC turn into a softforking-safe change (even though it
is not intended as a consensus rule), and as a result guarantee that using
it for mempool validation only results in consensus-valid transactions in
the mempool.

Discourage NOPs reserved for soft-fork upgrades
NOP1 to NOP10 are reserved for future soft-fork upgrades. In the event
of an upgrade such NOPs have *VERIFY behavior, meaning that if their
arguments are not correct the script fails. Discouraging these NOPs by
rejecting transactions containing them from the mempool ensures that
we'll never accept transactions, nor mine blocks, with scripts that are
now invalid according to the majority of hashing power even if we're not
yet upgraded. Previously this wasn't an issue as the IsStandard() rules
didn't allow upgradable NOPs anyway, but 7f3b4e95 relaxed the
IsStandard() rules for P2SH redemptions allowing any redeemScript to be
spent.

We *do* allow upgradable NOPs in scripts so long as they are not
executed. This is harmless as there is no opportunity for the script to
be invalid post-upgrade.

ab9edbd6b6 script: create sane error return codes for script validation and remove logging
Attempt to codify the possible error statuses associated with script
validation. script/types.h has been created with the expectation that it will
be part of the public lib interface. The other flag enums will be moved here in
a future commit.

Logging has also been removed in order to drop the dependency on core.h. It can
be re-added to bitcoind as-needed. This makes script verification finally free
of application state and boost!

* Delete canonical_tests.cpp, and move the tests to script_tests.cpp.
* Split off SCRIPT_VERIFY_DERSIG from SCRIPT_VERIFY_STRICTENC (the BIP62 part of it).
* Change signature STRICTENC/DERSIG semantics to fail the script entirely rather than the CHECKSIG result (softfork safety, and BIP62 requirement).
* Add many autogenerated tests for several odd cases.
* Mention specific BIP62 rules in the script verification flags.
